The 3rd Annual “Thunder Over Louisiana” Anniversary & Benefit was held at Southport Hall in Jefferson, LA. And this year’s event was a tremendous success with some wonderful surprises as well.
To begin with, turnout was great with over 400 registered. The crowds were there in full force enjoying food such as White Beans, Jambalaya, Boiled Crawfish and Pastalaya. Southport handled the cold beverages and drinks and with A/C indoors allowing folks to venture inside and outside throughout the day. Displays by Big Dog of Baton Rouge and Brand X Bike Works along with vendors; Affordable Leather, Amsoil, White Dove Fellowship, CMA, F&S Enterprises, Professor’s Cycle Products, Melida with all of her unique gifts.
Live music was excellent and generous with Pig Pen and the Porkchops and Black Rain grooving the crowds. Party Wit Pedot handled the outside chores with DJ and some wacky antics to go along with the entertainment only Pedot can conjure up. Especially when you’ve got a group of lovelies from Club Eden to party “wit”! Door prizes were handed out throughout the day along with live auction.
The surprises started out with Vicki Banos, my former Associate Editor coming in from Denver to celebrate this year’s anniversary. It was great seeing her and I know she had a wonderful time seeing old friends and family. Another cool and unexpected surprise was the trainload of military vehicles that slowly passed by Southport Hall. Kinda ironic since the event benefit was for the military. But the wildest surprise of all was running into Brian and Toni Shearon, the Thunder Roads Magazine Owner/Publishers. Brian and Toni snuck in from Tennessee to attend our anniversary party and to surprise both Brenda and me with the 2006 State Editor and Associate Editor of the Year awards. This was a great surprise for both of us and an opportunity to spend time with them for a few days afterwards.
At some point later in the afternoon, my ass got dragged over to Ryan’s drum kit and after many years away from the drums, I managed to “keep up” to the tune Johnny Be Good. That was fun and brought back great memories of my rock-n-roll years. Thanks Ryan and Black Rain for giving me the opportunity. Gonna have to get me another kit, I see it coming!
We’d like to say THANKS to everyone who helped get this event going and resulting in a huge success. They are; Mark Bagnetto and his staff at Southport Hall, the Swamp Riders, Mark Martinez for the jambalaya, Floyd Eschete of Cajun Country Lounge for the white beans, Tim Lirette for the pastalaya, All Star Boilers for the crawfish, Party Wit Pedot for DJ’ing, Pig Pen and the Porkchops, Black Rain, our Publishers Brian & Toni of Thunder Roads Magazine, our sponsor vendors and displays, supporting donors of our door prizes, my staff, Mike Holland and Brent Ponson for the photos and everyone who supported the event. I hope we didn’t forget to mention anyone but if we did, we appologize and appreciate your assistance. We hope everyone who came out had a great time and we hope to see you and others again next year for our 4th Anniversary event. Lafayette….we’re heading your way!

THUNDER OVER LOUISIANA
2006
Thunder Roads Magazine LA, celebrated our 2nd anniversary at Cajun Country Lounge in Houma, LA. With this, a benefit was incorporated to raise money to provide for the Louisiana National Guard Family Programs. With beautiful weather, bikers came in from all around to enjoy a day of relaxation, live music, vendors, displays, food, door prizes, live auction and just a plain ole good time with friends.
With registration recorded at over 250, the parking lot was full of bikes and bikers as well as folks just stopping by to check out the variety of scoots to be found. Music provided by Weathered, the Yeah You Right Band, Pig Pen & the Porkchops and Black Rain gave music lovers a variety of music styles to enjoy. LA Rider came out to film the event as well as HOG Heaven which allowed this event to be shared with those from other areas of Louisiana who couldn’t attend. Last tally resulted in $3,000 raised to be donated to the family program through Louisiana Cares.
Next year’s event will be held at another location to be announced later in the year. The staff of Thunder Roads Magazine would like to thank the many sponsors, vendors, donors and supporters who contributed to the success of this year’s event. A very special “Thanks” goes to Floyd Eschete, owner of Cajun Country Lounge who stepped up to the plate and bent over backwards to help us through another celebration. I’d also like to “Thank” our loyal advertisers and readers who stuck with us during a very tough time and especially those advertisers who have been with us since day one. Without you, we could not have seen this through. I’d also like to thank my staff for putting up with my crap over the years, especially Brenda for your dedication to the mag and Mike Holland for all your hard work and photography efforts. We’re already looking forward to our 3rd year anniversary and hope to see you there! Thanks again and God Bless!!!
